Thank you Summer Readers & Sponsors!

Our hearts are filled with gratitude at the Markesan Public Library for all the wonderful sponsors of our Summer Learning Program and all the families that participated.  The statistics this year are staggering.  We had 79 children participate and 46 adults.  Children read a total of 1,026 hours!  Adults read 315 books!  We were able to give away 55 plus raffle prizes, weekly wheel prizes, and offer diverse programs that taught us lots about animals, conservation, dinosaurs, myths & legends, healthy eating, spicy foods, crafting, and so much more!  Families made memories and had fantastic opportunities for free spirited play.  But the library was only able to do this because of our kind sponsors.  Please help us thank :  Adam's Rib (in honor of Dennis & Jean Adam); Ballweg Implement Co., Inc.; Berlin Journal/Markesan Regional Reporter; Citgo of Markesan; Delmonte; Ergo Bank of Markesan; Green Lake Basic Needs Fund within the Green Lake County/Ripon Community Foundation (Grant); Horicon Bank of Markesan; Lions Club of Markesan; Pizza Hut; Two Sisters Piggly Wiggly of Markesan.  We also received a few personal donations too.  Thank you to those anonymous donors as well.

Our community’s generosity continued during the Penny Wars.  We raised a total of $502.40 completely from individuals!  We are planning to spend those funds on purchasing a pet for the library.  Look for more details in the weeks ahead as we would like your input.  We plan to offer a few choices of appropriate pets and have the community vote for the favorite animal.

In other library news, mark your calendars for the upcoming free programs:

Thursday Aug 4 at 4pm:  Sizzling Summer Nail Wrap Party:  Sign up to learn all about nail art, have fun with a parent or learn on your own.  Make your hands do the talking with some summer themed polish and stick.

Monday Aug 8 at 3:45pm:  Movie Night:  Join us for a free movie showing with popcorn.  The library has a new projector and laptop and is very excited to get back to showing movies.  This month’s pick is a Sandra Bullock Channing Tatum picture rated PG-13 so younger children are only able to watch with parent or guardian.  Due to advertising restrictions we cannot name the title of the movie in the paper but can you guess this new dvd release based off the summary?  Reclusive author Loretta Sage writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan. While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city's lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.

Wednesday Aug 10 at 1pm:  Dynamic Desserts w/4-H:  Come make a sweet treat while learning about giving our muscles the care they need through stretching and practicing managing moods through mindfulness.  Morgan from the UW-Extension 4-H office will be leading us.

Both Nail Wrap Party & Dynamic Desserts require sign up as space is limited.  Please call 920-398-3434 or stop in the library today to secure your spot!
