Great Online Resources

During these times of social distancing and the state's safer at home order, the Markesan library is still here with a window to the world.  Online access to digital books, downloadable audiobooks. movie streaming and research databases like Ancestry Library Editions and Gale Universities are available.  New resources like Tumblebooks have been added.  And the library’s Facebook page features weekly live streamed storytime, Wednesdays at 10:30am.

The Libby or Overdrive app can be installed on most e-readers, smartphones and tablets to download books and audiobooks and to stream movies.  Libby is the newest version of Overdrive and is simple to use.  A new online resource for books geared especially for children is Tumblebooks.  It features animated, talking picture books with fiction, non-fiction and foreign language titles. Read-Alongs, Ebooks, and Puzzles & Games too.  This access is offered free through August 31, 2020 by Tumblebooks.

Ancestry Library Editions use to only be available for in library use.  Now for a limited time the resource can be accessed at home.  Research your family tree and search over 30,000 record collections and 11 billion records with a click of a button.  Other helpful tools for all types of research, independent study, and personal development exist on our website.  There are reputable databases covering health, automotive, magazines, newspapers, scholarly articles, school research & homework help, consumer reports, business and investments, literature and so much more.  Gale Universities has been especially popular and offers a vast collection of online classes taught by certified instructors.

Please continue to visit our website and our Facebook page for more information on all these exciting resources and some of the great plans and programs the library has coming up when we reopen.  Look for 1,000 books before Kindergarten, Summer Reading plans, play stations, monthly crafts, and more to be on the horizon!  In the meantime join us for our Facebook Live events, like storytime and other fun activities like “Hornet Strong”.  “Hornet Strong” is a great way to show community solidarity and pride.  Visit our Facebook page, print out a Hornet to color, and display in your window.  How creative can you be?  Thank you for making our library and community so vibrant during these difficult times.
