If you like scarecrows, the Markesan Public Library is the place to be, especially in October. If you have a favorite book character, be it of the human species or otherwise, here's your opportunity to show your creative genius by turning that character into a scarecrow. You may also make a scarecrow doing what comes naturally in library circles-it may be reading a book, newspaper or magazine, or listening to an audio book.
It must be stuffed with newspapers, batting, stockings or other non-weedy material. It can be kid or adult size. Is there such a thing as mouse scarecrow? Use your imagination! Come in to the library to get some ideas by checking out themed craft books or go online for the pattern you like. How about Bob the Builder? Fancy Nancy? Pippi Longstocking? Curious George? Nancy Drew? The Twilight series? Harry Potter? Ethnic? Historical? Hobby? Cooking? OK, now see what you can do.
Scarecrows must be of reasonable size and of an appropriate nature. Bring your scarecrows to the library from September 27 to October 1. They will be on display for the entire month of October. Each participant will receive a token of thanks.
